Rein van der Woerd is a maker, artist and researcher with a practice that functions as a “science box of a thousand experiments” — gadgets, installations, games for vintage consoles, interactive web projects, electronics and sound.

Through hands-on workshops and DIY, Rein tries to recover the digital utopianism and play of Web 1.0 and the early days of personal computers. He continually looks for ways to translate technology into something magical and accessible: projects are only successful when people (including children) feel the urge to explore them themselves.

This website is self-hosted on a 2015 computer from my house in Arnhem.

My work is like a science box with a 1000 experiments.
Whether it’s experimental gadgets, lava lamps, games for vintage gameconsoles or magic mushrooms, I try to distill ‘magical’ technologies into something everyone understands and can do at home. My projects have mad professor energy, and are only successful if a kid can’t keep their hands off it.
